Sammie Jo Coffin and Lauren Blunsdon were firing on all cylinders at Stithians Show where they made a clean sweep of the show jumping classes.
Showing her intention from the outset, Sammie Jo overcame her rivals to win the LA Phillips & Son 1.30m open on her mother Sue’s eight-year-old bay gelding Vicaros.
Course designer, Steve Williams made the trip down from Hereford to officiate at this prestigious show and a knowledgeable crowd appreciated his technical tracks.
Six faced the clock and with Sammie Jo’s top three horses Crosswinds Bobby Dazzler, Willem de Lux and Vicaros through to the barrage the 23-year-old from St Austell was the firm favourite to outpace Clare Beacham (Noble Cavalier), Brian Facey (Java Raindance) and Andrew James (Horse Heaven Saddlery Billy Whizz).
With the pressure building clear rounds proved hard to come by until Clare conjured a calculated round on her seasoned campaigner Noble Cavalier for an eventual second place.
But the door was left open for Sammie Jo who took full advantage to score the first of her three wins. Determined not to rest of her laurels, she secured her second victory in the accumulator on her own Crosswinds Bobby Dazzler. But it didn’t come easy as the 23-year-old was pushed all the way by her partner Brian Facey on his chestnut gelding Java Raindance.
Cornwall’s leading rider, then topped up her bank balance with the third placed prize money on Liz Hole’s ten-year-old chestnut gelding Torzo while Sophie Stockdale secured a credible fourth place recording a super round on Oregon Du Thot.
“I really don’t know what you have to do to beat these guys,” said Sophie who trains with Justin Tuff.
Sammie Jo rounded off the show with a win in the Horse and Hound Foxhunter riding James Luker’s impressive stallion Zig Zag.
“My horses are enjoying a great run of form,” said Sammie Jo, who runs her own breaking, schooling and producing business at Crosswind Equestrian
James was delighted to see his stallion in winning form at his home show.
“I couldn’t be more pleased with the way he’s progressing,” said James, of the www.rosewaystud.co.uk.
“We’re also extremely pleased with his foals and welcome mare owners to come along and meet both our stallions.”
Clare Beacham came closest clinching second and third on Liz Richards’ Lissyegan Condios and with her mother Sue’s Lunberg.
Thirteen-year-old Lauren confirmed her promise with a duo of wins in the junior classes riding her mother Cathy’s ten-year-old gelding Ching Ching.
The pair jumped the only double clears in the junior newcomer and foxhunter classes for a convincing victory.
“I’m absolutely chuffed with Ching,” said Lauren, who is a pupil at Truro School. “He’s in great form, and also won both his classes at Praze Show.”
